Indian Hills Community College Lab Technician, Diesel Technology in Ottumwa, United States

Job Summary:

Assist Diesel Technology Instructors in safety, cleanliness, and maintenance of the diesel lab and classroom. Provide assistance to Diesel Technology Instructors with lab setup for projects/demonstrations and student supervision within the lab/classroom. Maintain inventory of program supplies and assist with the ordering repair parts and supplies for customers. The position may provide coverage for courses in the absence of the instructors. Courses may include a variety of delivery methods including on-campus, live virtual learning and on-line.

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required with post-secondary training preferred.

  • Minimum of three years work experience in the field.

  • Must be able to relate well with people in creating a safe lab environment which is conducive to student learning.

  • Must demonstrate a willingness to learn and take initiative.

  • Must be willing to work flexible hours/days as needed.

    Work Performed:

  • Supervise students in the lab environment for safety, instruction, and support to the instructor.

  • Help keep accurate inventory of all equipment and supplies.

  • Help create and maintain work order documents.

  • Assist in ordering repair and replacement parts for lab projects and supplies.

  • Help maintain cleanliness of lab spaces and surrounding areas.

  • Repair classroom or lab equipment as needed, or initiate work order requests for campus maintenance personnel.

  • Aid in the setup of lab and materials needed to perform the labs demonstrated in the shop area.

  • Assist in the evaluation procedures for student labs.

  • Maintain lab presence in the absence of the instructor.

  • Mentor assistance to students in job placement activities (i.e. resumes, mock interviews, etc.)

  • Assist in the classroom when needed.

  • Maintain compliance with all safety issues within the lab and with the students and with the documentation and reporting of any accidents.

  • Provides support to the club supervisor with day-to-day activities.

  • Serve as a substitute.

  • Represent the college in the most positive manner with prospective, former and current students, clients, suppliers and the community.

  • Maintain regular and consistent attendance at work.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Schedule:

6 hrs/day, Monday - Thursday

Hourly Rate:

$18.67 - 22.73
